Advocate Health Supports Breast Health Awareness

Advocate Health recognizes Breast Health Awareness in October to encourage mammograms and other preventive screenings. Breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women. The key to beating breast cancer is early detection. Women should perform monthly self-breast exams, have regular clinical breast examinations by a trained medical professional, and schedule mammograms as recommended by their provider.

Teammate Spotlight

Always involved in sports and activities, Barbara felt tired, weak and not herself while undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer from a routine mammogram. She was able to get back to herself with the help of Team Phoenix, a 14-week triathlon training program through Advocate Health Care. She reminds teammates that whatever you’re going through, there is a program to help, and you’d be surprised if you get out there and give something new a try. She stresses for teammates to not miss a year of wellness checks, annual exams or mammograms because there’s help and support available.

• All teammates should talk to their doctor about whether a mammogram is appropriate. 
• Participating breast health centers will dedicate special hours, evening and weekends, and convenient locations, including on-site mobile mammography units, for Atrium Health teammates to receive their mammogram. 
• As part of your Health Plan, your mammogram (including 3D mammograms) and most other prevention screenings are covered at 100 percent.
