The Best Eats for the Best You Nutrition Program
Are you ready to take part in a unique online nutrition course offered exclusively for Atrium Health teammates? Join us for three Tuesdays starting in February as we dig deep into the Mediterranean Diet and Plant-Based Nutrition. This online program is hosted by a team of registered dietitians from the Clinical Nutrition Department and Atrium Health Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute. If you are a member of an Atrium Health Medical Plan, it is part of the Medical Nutrition Therapy benefit and covered at 100%. If you are on another health plan, you will have to call your insurance to see if it will be covered.
Think you already know all there is to know about the Mediterranean diet? Think again! In addition to a virtual pantry and a deep dive into label reading, this course will introduce you to:
- The foundational 5 of this whole foods, plant-based diet
- Stocking your pantry
- Vegetable oil basics
- The Mediterranean plate method
- The ins and outs of gut health
Obtaining a Referral
You must get a referral from your healthcare provider to participate in this program. To help coordinate a referral and participate in the program you may do one of the following:
Individual Medical Nutrition Therapy
Atrium Health Greater Charlotte Teammates
Atrium Health has Registered Dietitian/Nutritionists (RDN) available for outpatient visits to help you reduce your health risks. Find an Atrium Health Diabetes & Outpatient Nutrition Center near you.
Health professionals agree that nutrition education is one of the first treatments that individuals should receive to prevent or improve conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension.
Teammates and family members who are enrolled in one of the Atrium Health Medical Plans may receive free visits with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Appointments are available to participants who have a physician’s referral for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). MNT is only available at select locations.
How to Get a Referral
- Contact the Dietitians’ office of your choice for guidance in securing the referral; or
- Talk to your physician about a referral
- Complete a Preventive Care Exam at an Atrium Health LiveWELL Care Clinic location, the provider will be able refer you for MNT
Up to six visits may be covered at 100% in a benefit year to provide guidance and education for diet-related conditions or risk factors, including but not limited to:
- Pre-Diabetes
- Diabetes
- Obesity
- High Cholesterol
- High Blood Pressure
- Renal or Kidney Disease
Medical Nutrition Therapy provided by an RDN includes:
- Review of what you eat, your eating habits and diet-related conditions
- Thorough review of your nutritional health
- Personalized nutrition treatment plan
- Review of risk factors listed above
The first visit with the RDN typically lasts one hour. After the first session, the RDN will schedule follow-up appointments to check on your progress and see if changes are needed in your nutrition goals and treatment plan.
*Note that not all Nutrition and Diabetes services are covered at 100%.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Teammates
Wellness Dietitian available for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Opportunities for individualized nutrition therapy and group classes are offered to teammates and dependents over the age of 18 enrolled in Atrium Health Medical Plans. Call 336-716-1118 for more information and to schedule your in-person or virtual appointment.
Atrium Health Navicent Teammates
Atrium Health Navicent teammates are offered three sessions per year at no cost with a qualifying health condition and a referral from their doctor. Appointments with the dietitian will be held virtually. If you have questions, call the Outpatient Nutrition department at Atrium Health University City (704-863-5713) and they can help coordinate the referral.
