Housing Opportunity Promoting Equity (H.O.P.E.)

For Mecklenburg County residents

Housing Opportunity Promoting Equity (H.O.P.E.) is Atrium Health's affordable housing investment program designed especially for our teammates. The H.O.P.E Housing program allows eligible teammates access to affordable housing.  Units are available to rent at a sliding-scale rate based on income for eligible teammates and their families.  H.O.P.E Housing offerings are currently only available in Mecklenburg County. We offer H.O.P.E. to support our teammates to continue to do what they do best every day –- improve health, elevate hope and advance healing – FOR ALL. 

H.O.P.E Housing Eligibility 

  • Proof of Income – the maximum combined pre-tax household income is $55,840 for a 1-person household or $63,840 for a 2-person household.   
  • 3 months of full-time employment at Atrium Health    
  • Performance status of “in good standing”  
  • Willingness and commitment to work with an assigned Atrium Health Career Coach for ongoing financial coaching/advising 
  • Meets ONE of the following eligibility criteria: 
    • Loss of existing housing due to catastrophic event or natural disaster 
    • Currently does not reside in permanent or rental housing and desires to do so 
    • Inability to pay current rent or mortgage because it is greater than 30% of living expenses 
    • Current housing situation has changed due to loss of roommate/spouse/partner contributing to inability to pay mortgage/rent

What is H.O.P.E.?  
H.O.P.E. stands for Housing Opportunity Promoting Equity. It is Atrium Health’s affordable housing program for teammates.

What type of housing is offered through H.O.P.E.? 
Currently all H.O.P.E Housing offerings are only available in Mecklenburg County. The initial offering through the H.O.P.E. program is 50 one- and two- bedroom apartment homes at HillRock Estates. The units are available to rent at a sliding-scale rate based on income for eligible teammates and their families. HillRock Estates is a 341-unit apartment home development conveniently located in the Eastway area of Charlotte, near the Charlotte Country Club. Property amenities include a pool, clubhouse, fitness center, playgrounds, dog park and walking trail. Other properties coming soon.

Who is eligible to apply for H.O.P.E.?
Teammates must meet the following criteria to apply to H.O.P.E.:

  • Proof of Income – the maximum combined pre-tax household income is $55,840 for a 1-person household or $63,840 for a 2-person household.   
  • 3 months of full-time employment at Atrium Health   
  • Performance status of “in good standing”
    • In good standing is defined as a teammate who has not received a written counseling for the last six months and has completed Annual Compliance Education (ACE) per HR Policy and Guidelines and is in compliance with the Infectious Disease Prevention Policy. 
  • Willingness and commitment to engage in financial education/coaching and work with an assigned Atrium Health Career Coach 
  • Meets ONE of the following eligibility criteria:
    • No permanent housing (currently does not reside in permanent or rental housing and desires to do so)
    • Loss of housing due to catastrophic event or natural disaster
    • Change in housing due to loss of roommate/spouse/partner 
    • Housing cost greater than 30% of living expenses

If I meet all criteria, how do I apply?
Teammates may complete the H.O.P.E. Housing Interest Form here. You must provide a complete form and meet all of the eligibility criteria.   

What is the review process for applications?
All interest forms are reviewed for complete and accurate information by the Project & Program Coordinator and the Social Strategy & Impact Team. Teammates will receive communication about their application within one week of applying. If a teammate meets all criteria for the program, their contact information will be shared with the Property Manager at HillRock Estates once a unit becomes available that matches their preference.

Is the application process confidential?
Due to the sensitive nature of the Atrium Health H.O.P.E. program, applicant and recipient information will be kept in the strictest confidence. Applicants may choose to allow Human Resources to contact their supervisor if needed and may choose to sign a release to allow information to be used for program promotion purposes.
