Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. 

Advocate Health appreciates veterans and military members and our shared commitment to service. We recognize military service members and their spouses are positioned to provide innovative leadership and professional expertise that contributes to our mission that impacts our patients, their families and the communities we serve. We are proud to have a comprehensive military and veteran engagement strategy at Advocate Health.

One Team, One Mission

The One Team, One Mission System Resource Group is an SRG of veteran and active-duty military teammates, their families & allies.

Our Mission: One Team, One Mission supports, develops and promotes the unique characteristics of veterans/military teammates throughout Atrium Health business units and care locations; fostering a culture that recruits, transitions, develops and retains veterans/military as valued teammates and a valued talent pipeline for Atrium Health.

Our Objectives: 

  • Strengthen relationships between Atrium Health and members of the Military/Veteran Community at large 
  • Strengthen relationships with teammates who are Military Veterans & Supporters 
  • Provide mentoring & professional development opportunities to members 
  • Promote the understanding of the military/service culture within the organization 
  • Promote the understanding of how military service occupations can translate into careers at Atrium Health.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Veterans Society

The Veterans Society will focus on increasing awareness and engagement of military veterans within our health system and the community. This group represents those who are active, reserve and retired military personnel as well as their family members, spouses and supporters who want to collaborate on outreach, education, advocacy and recruitment and retention efforts related to the various military branches.   

The society's primary focus areas are:   

  • Networking: to promote professional growth and development, and share insights to improve awareness and support for our veterans  
  • Community outreach and partnerships: to support and/or volunteer with other local and regional non-profit & charitable veteran advocacy and service organizations  
  • Making Wake Forest Baptist Health the #1 place of employment for veterans: to strategize and participate in various veteran retention and/or recruitment activities and by helping our veterans transition back to civilian life and work  
  • Event planning: to assist in the development and planning of related recognition events and activities, including Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, organizing special guest speakers, and informational symposiums

Diabetes Prevention

November is National Diabetes Month. It’s important for all teammates to know their risk factors for diabetes. Regular screenings and check-ins with your doctor improve early detection. Managing diabetes can be difficult, especially if you’re not sure where to turn for resources. Advocate Health offers programs, resources and providers to help you manage all the aspects of diabetes. November 1 – All Saints’ Day, All Souls Day, Día de Los Muertos: These days are dedicated to all those who have passed away in the Christian faith as well as the Mexican and Aztec communities   

November 1 – Diwali: An important celebration in the Hindu faith in which a variety of deities are praised 

November 11 – Annual Veterans Celebration  

November 16 – International Day for Tolerance: The UN holiday was founded to encourage respect among various people regardless of culture, language, religion, or ethnicity

November 16 – Dutch American Heritage Day: This day applauds the long friendship between the Netherlands and the United States

November 17 – International ERG Day: This day celebrates Employee Resource Groups internationally. At Atrium Health the groups are called ‘System Resource Groups.’ Get involved in one today!

November 20 – Transgender Day of Remembrance: This day is held as a remembrance for all those murdered because of transphobia
