Johnson C. Smith University: Charlotte’s Urban University
Atrium Health partners with Johnson C. Smith University to support students and faculty in
community engagement activities, career development, upward mobility programming and several
mentoring programs.
Mayor’s Youth Employment Program
For more than 10 years, Atrium Health has provided paid summer internships for Charlotte
Mecklenburg Schools' students aged 16 & up through participation in the Mayor's Youth
Employment Program.
Discovering Careers
Each year, Atrium Health participates in the Charlotte Career Discovery Day, which features
a variety of interactive industry zones exposing 2,000+ young adults aged 16-24 to emerging
careers and post-secondary education.
Propelling Adolescents Toward Careers in Healthcare (PATCH)
Targeted to Charlotte’s minority and underserved students, the PATCH Program is an 8-week
curriculum intended to encourage a more diverse healthcare workforce and reduce health
disparities. Each week, participants shadow teammates at Carolinas Medical Center, learn to
conduct and present scientific research, and benefit from a highly interactive mentorship.
Project Search
Atrium Health hosts Project Search at three locations: Atrium Health Mercy, Atrium Health
Pineville and Atrium Health Union. The program provides work-based learning and
promotes problem-solving, adult thinking processes, teamwork and social relationships
for students with disabilities.
