Atrium Health Supports Breast Health Awareness

Atrium Health celebrates Breast Health Awareness the entire month of October to encourage mammograms and other preventive screenings. Breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women. The key to beating breast cancer is early detection. Women should perform monthly self-breast exams, have regular clinical breast examinations by a trained medical professional, and schedule mammograms as recommended by their provider.

Use Time Out for Prevention to schedule all recommended preventive care and screenings, including mammograms. Preventive screenings can find conditions earlier, when they are easier to treat.

"Love yourself enough to take care of yourself."

Lynette Burnett

Lynette knows there is a purpose for her battle with breast cancer. As a 10-year survivor, Lynette believes that purpose is to strengthen her faith, learn perseverance and encourage others. She says yoga helped her stay present and focused to beat the disease. Her advice is to love yourself enough to take care of yourself. Get screened!

Levine Cancer Institute: Project PINK

Levine Cancer Institute: Project PINK was established to increase access to life-saving mammography screenings for uninsured women. Donations to  The Project PINK Fund allow for “Free Mammography Days” in underserved communities where the need is highest. In partnership with  Charlotte Radiology, the program’s state-of-the-art mobile breast center travels throughout the community offering free screenings in a convenient, compassionate environment.

  • Levine Cancer Institute Project PINK allows eligible women a free screening mammogram and follow-up care (diagnostic screening, ultrasound, biopsy) if recommended.
  • Levine Cancer Institute Project PINK PLUS provides women who have an existing breast lump or other concern the opportunity to receive a free diagnostic mammogram and follow-up care.

If there is a positive cancer finding during either program, the patient will be navigated throughout the entire treatment from diagnosis to survivorship.

Support from local organizations, community partners, and other generous donations to the Project PINK Fund make these programs possible. Together we are saving lives.

For scheduling through Project Pink contact LCI Outreach or call 980-442-2509.

To donate directly to Project Pink or Project Pink Plus, visit the Project Pink site.

  • Participating breast health centers will dedicate special hours, evening and weekends, and convenient locations, including on-site mobile mammography units, for Atrium Health teammates to receive their mammogram.
  • As an added incentive for teammates, your leaders may accommodate up to two hours of paid time for your screening. Review the Time Out for Prevention Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
  • As part of the LiveWELL Health Plan, your mammogram (including 3D mammograms for those with dense breast tissue) and other well-woman screenings including your colonoscopy are covered at 100 percent.
